Filing a Missing Mail Search With USPS

NOTE: You must or create a free account at USPS to submit missing mail searches. 



Tracking Check

2. If you haven't already, check the tracking on the package to see the current status.


3. If there has been no movement on the package for 7 days, you can submit the search.

Missing Mail Request

4. Click Start Your Missing Mail Search to fill out the form.

5. Enter the Tracking Number and hit Enter.

6. The form will use the tracking number to pre-populate the rest of the fields in Step 1 for you. Verify the information is correct.

7. Enter the customer's information in Step 2.

8. Enter your customer's information in the Whom can we contact section. Leave the phone number blank or enter your own phone number if you want to be contacted.

Mailpiece Details

9. Enter the information about the item(s) in the package.

Review and Submit

10. Check the boxes agreeing to the terms.

11. Click Verify Address to check the address and submit the mail search.

12. Take a screenshot of the confirmation/acceptance message showing the Search ID.

13. Message the customer letting them know you've filed the search for them and that they should watch for an email from USPS. Include the Submission Confirmed screenshot with the ID number. They will receive an email from USPS giving them their next steps.

I've submitted a missing mail form for you. Sometimes that gets USPS updating or investigating the issue. I've uploaded a screenshot with the search ID. They should email you soon.
